Advocates like solictor Anne-Marie Hutchinson in the United Kingdom are up in arms over a Legal Services Commission decision to cut legal aid to solicitors who help intended spouses, some as young as age 9, escape forced marriages and honor killings. A tragic event in Pakistan last week brought the legal aid cuts under heavy scrutiny. In what appeared to be an honor-killing, a man and his wife were gunned down in a remote Pakistani village after refusing to allow their daughters to marry their nephews.
